Consumption could be key to measuring carbon footprints

Some of the world's greenest places look a lot less eco-friendly when you factor in the carbon footprints of the products residents consume, according to a recent analysis. San Francisco's consumption in 2008 accounted for almost three times as much emitted carbon as the city produces directly, while Oregon's 2005 carbon footprint rose nearly 50% once consumption was factored in.
