Demand outpaces supply at food banks amid lower SNAP benefits

Republicans are targeting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for budget cuts, after the number of participants nearly doubled in seven years. However, organizations such as the San Antonio Food Bank report increased demand as food stamp benefits are reduced. The food bank feeds 58,000 people each week, half of whom are working or underemployed families, and "demand is outpacing supply," CEO Eric Cooper says.
