German nut sellers impacted by spike in almond prices

German candied nut sellers have seen the wholesale price of almonds near record highs this year, up by between 30% and 70% since 2012, due to growing global demand in Asia and low crop yields. The cost increase for nut sellers across Germany's traditional Christmas markets has resulted in price competition. "One of us can't sell for much more or much less than the other, and customers aren't willing to pay higher prices," says Rosemarie Pieczyk.
