Experts say full-body scanners could have detected the explosive smuggled aboard Northwest Flight 253, but privacy concerns have prevented deployment of the machines in Europe. That could change, however, as governments scramble to plug the hole that allowed Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to board the plane with explosive chemicals hidden under his clothes.
