Japan connects to U.S.-bound undersea fiber-optic cable

Japan has hooked up to an undersea fiber-optic cable that links East Asia with the U.S. through the Trans-Pacific Express Cable Network, the country's NTT Communications said. NTT invested $80 million in the new cable, which connects to the 11,184-mile-long TPE network that snakes along China, South Korea and Taiwan and sends data at speeds up to 5.12 terabits per second.
