Researchers to develop "genomic encyclopedia" of microbes

Scientists at the Energy Department's Joint Genome Institute have mapped the genomes of 56 species of microbes as part of a project called "genomic encyclopedia." They also discovered 1,768 new gene families, including genes that might benefit the biotech sector.
