A well-planned vegan diet can be a nutritious option and may help prevent disease because it's low in cholesterol and high in fiber, says registered dietitian Vandana Sheth. Dietitians say a vegan diet can be used by people of all ages, but those who adopt the lifestyle should pay attention to getting enough of key nutrients, including vitamin B-12, iron and omega-3 fatty acids.
