India to establish isotope facility in Kolkata

India is set to open a medical isotope facility in Kolkata in the middle of next year. The facility will focus on producing radioisotopes that emit gamma rays and positrons. The center, anticipated to be commissioned by 2014, will limit the country's dependence on imported isotopes and reduce costs, said Malay Kanti Das, head of the regional center of the Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology in Kolkata.
