The wind-energy Production Tax Credit needs a multiyear extension to maintain the gains made by the wind power sector and stave off job losses in the industry, but it will probably get a one-year extension, according to Donn Pendergrass, president of the 1191 Amalgamated Local Steel Workers union and an employee at ATI Casting Service in La Porte, Ind. The PTC needs at least a three-year extension to make sense for manufacturers, Pendergrass said. "By the time you get your orders in and get those orders fulfilled you need more than one year. You need three to get up and running for orders, for designing new blades," he said.
