Baby boomers help boost nutritional-supplement business

Baby boomers are helping the nutritional-supplement business, buying more vitamins and minerals to live longer, healthier lives. While nationwide sales of nutritional supplements increased 4% between 1997 and 2002, sales of herbal and botanical supplements plummeted about 3% in 2002, a trend some attribute to doubts about the efficacy of or health risks associated with some products.
