Opinion: Free-market reforms end up hurting children

Columbia Teachers College professor Amy Stuart Wells says recent studies indicating that charter schools have not kept pace with traditional ones illustrate the problems with hastily-embraced school reforms built around unproven ideas. Chastising free-market advocates for pushing for large numbers of charters with great autonomy, she says all but the best charter schools need to be shut down.
