Most Asian markets gain amid high volatility, low volume

Stocks listed in Shanghai, China, declined for a sixth consecutive session on concerns about the slumping economy and earnings growth, while most other Asian markets advanced today. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 Average inched up 0.1%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 gained 1.1% and New Zealand's NZX 50 Index climbed 0.4%. South Korea's Kospi closed little changed, Taiwan's Taiex slid 0.2% and India's Sensex added 0.6%. Singapore's Straits Times Index rose 1.2%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gained 1%, the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index advanced 1.5% and China's Shanghai Composite gave up 0.1%.
