Retailers in Tokyo suburb focus on older consumers

Tokyo has a reputation as a hot spot for the young and fashionable, but retailers in the Sugamo district are capitalising on the aging population by catering to the elderly. For example, red undergarments have long been touted in Asia as a way to heat up the body. Thus, shops in Sugamo make sure they're stocked with red clothes. "For the past 15 years, our old lady customers have been asking us for red things," said Hideji Kudo of the Maruji clothing store.
