TV broadcasters look to paid-content model

Amid retrans battles, weak advertising and declining ratings for broadcast networks, the networks are shifting away from ad-supported free-TV models. The Time Warner Cable-Fox retransmission-fee dispute and Comcast's purchase of NBC could be defining forces in this shift. "Good programming is expensive," said Fox and News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch. "It can no longer be supported solely by advertising revenues."
