Istanbul bans book by Turkish author from schools

Officials in Istanbul, Turkey, recently launched a Writers at School programme to promote Turkish contemporary authors. However, officials have banned the book "Abis," by a Turkish writer, from the junior-high-school reading list after complaints from parents about its content. Officials who analysed the book said it was inappropriate for junior-high-school students.
