Mo. elementary-school students try out new fruits, veggies

Elementary-school students in Springfield, Mo., had snow peas, blood oranges and avocados for snacks this month as the school district participated in the federal Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. Nutrition-services staffers prepared the portions and delivered them to the classrooms, giving children a chance to try fruits and vegetables they may not have heard of before.
