Cleveland Clinic releases list of medical breakthroughs for 2014

Experts from the Cleveland Clinic selected the top medical breakthroughs that they believe will improve health care in 2014. The list includes B-cell receptor pathway inhibitors for the treatment of cancer; trimethylamine N-oxide, a new biomarker for heart disease; and serelaxin, a synthetic version of a natural human hormone for treatment of acute heart failure. Selection was based on the discovery's benefit to patients, as well as its potential to improve health care delivery, among other factors.
