Mandarin education taking off in UK

Officials in the UK are calling for Mandarin to be the primary foreign language students learn in school, over French and German. Already students are learning Mandarin as early as 5 years old, and schools nationwide expect that the number of students receiving such instruction will grow under the new directive. At one school, students begin learning Chinese with English characters.
