National study raises questions about high-stakes exams

High-stakes tests given by states may worsen overall academic achievement and encourage students to drop out of high school, according to a study by Arizona State University researchers. The study's lead author said heavy testing requirements are forcing teachers to neglect other important aspects of curricula.
