Washington school district aims to increase minorities in gifted classes

The Federal Way School District is relying less on placement tests and more on teacher screenings and student work to identify students for the Gifted and Talented program. Teachers at the two elementary schools where the experimental approach is being used have been trained to identify students with aptitude in such areas as leadership, art and verbal ability.
