Toronto adopts race-based tracking of student performance

Last November, the Toronto School Board voted 11 to 10 to track student achievement on the basis of a number of factors, including ethnicity and race. Supporters of the controversial plan say the data collection will help eliminate inequality, while critics worry that the policy could encourage racism if it's publicized that large numbers of black children are failing in schools.
