Prove your skills when shifting careers

A 40-something who is changing careers should expect a reduction in pay, says columnist Lily Garcia, even after going back to school or taking classes to learn new skills. Existing experience will count only when switching into a related field. One way to show your value to a new employer, she says, is to deconstruct your work experience to show you actually do have the skills for the new job.
