Push for power grid concerns some Montana environmental groups

Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer is eager to put the state's green energy to use, and recently asked the federal government to fund a next-generation transmission grid. However, some environmentalists say the underlying interest in the grids is expanding the use of electricity generated by coal. "They talk a lot about wind power, but their real interest is vastly expanded use of coal in generating electricity," said Larry Swanson, a regional economist at the University of Montana in Missoula.
