U.S. health agencies release regulations to push EMR adoption

Federal health agencies last week issued proposed regulations aimed at stimulating the widespread use of electronic medical records among health care providers. The CMS' proposed rules define "meaningful use" of EMRs, upon which eligibility for federal incentives will be based, while the HHS' interim final rule outlines provisions on interoperability, security and use of health IT. The final rule on EMR standards is planned for release sometime this year.
