Research backs ultrasound to verify appendicitis

Incorporating selective ultrasonography in the diagnostic workup for suspected appendicitis can improve diagnostic accuracy and limit unneeded radiation exposure, according to a study published in the journal Pediatrics. Ultrasound diagnosis combined with pediatric appendicitis scoring can reduce the need for computed tomography, researchers found.
