Schools nationwide struggle to hire more minority teachers

Diversity in staffing in Minnesota's schools has not kept up with the diversity among students. The state's trend reflects nationwide statistics, which show 17% of educators and 40% of students are minorities. In Minnesota, state Sen. Patricia Torres Ray says more diversity among teachers would help close the achievement gap. She intends to hold hearings during the upcoming legislative session on the topics of training and recruiting teachers.
