Recent deals show signs of new life for bank M&As

Two recent bank sales, completed without government intervention, suggest that the bank merger-and-acquisition business is slowly coming back to life. Capital One agreed to pay $520 million for Chevy Chase Bank and M&T Bank made an all-stock deal valued at about $400 million to take over Provident Bankshares.
