Behavioral detection gets a second look

While much of the reaction to a terrorist bombing attempt has focused on security technology, some experts say TSA's focus should be on expanded behavioral screening. TSA does have agents trained to watch for signs of anxiety among air travelers, but behavioral screening in the U.S. is limited by concerns over racial or ethnic profiling. But Tom Blank, a former top official at the TSA, says behavioral detection does not need to be tied to "religious belief, gender or ethnicity." Instead, TSA's program is "rooted in some of the surveillance of U.S. retail operations," he says.
