DOD's Rx drug spending rose by 123% from 2002 to 2011

Increases in prescription drug spending by the Defense Department reflect the aging of retired service members covered by Tricare. Military spending on drugs grew by more than 123% since 2002 to $6.8 billion in 2011, according to Tricare, and that increase outpaced the overall growth of U.S. drug sales in the same period.
