ALDI plans to close two stores in the Peoria, Ill., area, and open a new store in East Peoria next month that will feature high ceilings as well as energy-efficient refrigeration units and light bulbs, according to ALDI Division Vice President Heather Moore. The closure of the ALDI on S. Western Avenue, however, will leave Peoria's South Side without a supermarket, where many residents do not have cars to drive outside the area for groceries. "We don't have any other decent grocery stores. This leaves us with nothing," said LaVetta Ricca, president of the Olde Towne South neighborhood organization.
