USTelecom and the NTCA filed a joint petition with the Federal Communications Commission this week requesting temporary forbearance from certain Universal Service Fund (USF) contribution requirements for small, rural broadband providers. The relief requested would reap several positive results and place rural ISPs on a level playing field with other broadband service providers until reform efforts addressing long-term sustainability with USF programs could be settled. "Getting more consumers connected in rural areas is a widely-shared goal and the petition filed would be a positive step forward in that direction," said USTelecom CEO Jonathan Spalter. Learn more.
