Researchers create 3D-printed heart valve models to improve TAVR outcomes

A study in JACC: Cardiovascular Imaging showed 3D-printed models that mimic heart valve tissue could lower the risk of paravalvular leakage in transcatheter aortic valve replacements by predicting a prosthetic valve's fit in a patient. Researchers created the models based on computed tomography images of 18 patients and lined them with radiopaque beads to help determine disparities in the prosthetic valve's location and develop a bulge index for predicting the severity of post-TAVR paravalvular leaks.
