The CMS has given expanded reimbursement coverage for Second Sight Medical's Argus II retinal prosthesis system, authorizing use in the District of Columbia and 11 more states. The device, which induces visual perception in patients with retinitis pigmentosa through electrical stimulation, now has coverage in seven of the 12 Medicare Administrative Contractor jurisdictions, representing 28 states, two territories and Washington, D.C.
