Medtronic's nano-sized Micra pacemaker will be launched into space next week to examine the effects of extremely low temperatures and high radiation on the device, as well as how the device can withstand intense vibrations during a rocket flight. The project, designed by a Nebraska high-school student and part of the NASA-backed private education program Cubes in Space, will put the pacemaker inside a small cube for an approximately 10-minute rocket flight.
