An mHealth group consisting of representatives from the FDA, Duke University, Kaiser Permanente, Stanford University and Brigham and Women's Hospital has created an action plan that seeks to integrate consumer-facing mHealth data and devices into clinical trials. The group also recommended establishing a standardized research design for mHealth developers, using mHealth technologies for research and to boost patient privacy and informed consent processes, creating a "learning mHealth research community" and enabling open access to consumer-generated data.
