Breast cancer mortality drops due to better treatment, screening

Breast cancer deaths decreased by 49% in 2012 due to better screening and treatment, compared with a 37% decline in 2000, a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found. Early detection of cancer through screening accounted for 37% of the reduced mortality in 2012, while better treatments accounted for 63%.
