What would an ad-free Facebook entail?

Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg says that any potential version of the platform that is free of ads "would be a paid product," and Callum Borchers calculates that, based on ad revenues, this would amount to an annual fee of $18.75. "Subscription-based business models have grown in popularity since Facebook first launched with their advertising-supported business model," says Harvard Business School's Jeff Bussgang, as he and others explore options for the company.
