Oil majors join forces to lower methane emissions

Eight oil giants, including ExxonMobil, Total, BP and Royal Dutch Shell, pledged to curb methane emissions from the natural gas sector, improve emissions reporting and collaborate with governments on writing new methane rules, among other things. "Since natural gas consists mainly of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, its part in the transition to a low-carbon future will be influenced by the extent to which the oil and gas industry reduces its methane emissions," the companies said.
