A study in Sleep Medicine Reviews showed that pregnant women who had an average sleep duration of less than six hours had a 1.7-fold increased risk of developing gestational diabetes, compared with those who slept longer. The research was based on a meta-analysis of eight studies involving 17,308 pregnant women.
