A study in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research found that obese women with type 2 diabetes showed improved bone mineral density despite losing bone marrow fat following bariatric surgery. "Understanding the role of marrow fat in bone metabolism may eventually help us find ways to prevent and treat skeletal complications of bariatric surgery and diabetic bone fragility," said lead author Tiffany Kim.
