Patients with type 2 diabetes and microvascular complications had lower mean gray matter and brain volume than those without microvascular complications and healthy controls, according to a study in the Journal of Diabetes. Chinese researchers also found that total brain volume was negatively associated with diabetes duration, grading of hypertension and body mass index.
