Dutch researchers evaluated data from the Maastricht Study involving 2,531 type 2 diabetes patients with a mean age of 60 and found that hyperglycemia was most responsible for decrements in attention and processing speed and executive function, while blood pressure-related variables had a lesser influence on processing speed. The findings in Diabetes Care suggested focusing on early glycemic and BP control to prevent diabetes-associated decrements in cognitive performance.
