Chinese adults considered to have normal-weight obesity had a higher risk of cardiometabolic events -- including hypertension, hyperlipidemia, metabolic syndrome and diabetes -- compared with their normal-weight counterparts, according to a study in Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases. The findings, based on data from 23,748 Chinese adults, "suggests that [normal-weight obesity], a subtype of obesity, may provide more information about the cardiometabolic risks compared with the more traditional obesity types based on BMI or [waist circumference]," researchers said.
