Researchers ID biomarkers that predict renal function decline in diabetes

A study in Diabetes Care showed that the rapid decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate among type 2 diabetes patients may be predicted by the novel plasma biomarkers CD5 antigen-like, complement C1q subcomponent subunit B and plasma apolipoprotein A-IV, along with insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3. Australian researchers used semiparametric group-based modeling to identify the clinical predictors of rapid eGFR decline in a cohort of 345 community-based patients from the Fremantle Diabetes Study Phase II.
