The stalled Yucca Mountain used nuclear fuel repository in Nevada "is a very important national project," said Nuclear Energy Institute Senior Director of Used Fuel and Decommissioning Rod McCullum. While the Yucca Mountain project has had a difficult history marked by opposition in Nevada, Finland has had success in establishing its own used nuclear fuel repository by being open and transparent with local residents, said Timo Aikas, a former Posiva executive.
