United Technologies has agreed to a $13.9 million settlement of Securities and Exchange Commission charges that the company violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. The company was accused of giving unlawful payments and improper gifts to foreign officials when securing contracts through its elevator and aircraft engine subsidiaries.
