Pharmacists are critical public health partners in the fight against opioid abuse, said Steve Anderson, CEO of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores at a CMS-sponsored conference. "When pharmacists are integrated into direct patient care in a team with other health professionals, there are positive effects on patient outcomes as well as reduced health care costs," said Gigi Kwik Gronvall, corresponding author of a study noting opportunities for public policy to take advantage of collaboration with pharmacists.
