A nanosensor described in The New England Journal of Medicine could detect the accumulation of fat within live cells, helping physicians diagnose such conditions as heart disease, Alzheimer's and certain cancers. Researchers hope additional studies will lead to the technology's application in developing new drugs for obesity-related diseases.
