Researchers at Washington University in St. Louis reported in the Journal of Neuroscience that they have found a painkiller that doesn't target nerve cells, unlike most pain medications, including opioids. Opioids are responsible for tens of thousands of overdose deaths and have triggered a public health emergency, according to HHS.
