Four barriers to improving colorectal cancer screening and treatment include limited resources, whether patients understand CRC symptoms and physicians correctly diagnose them, beliefs about health and illness such as self-care and patients' reaction to illness, according to a study in the journal Diseases of the Colon & Rectum. "A comprehensive approach that incorporates all four gaps in screening for colorectal cancer identified by this study will decrease barriers to screening and save lives," Dr. Timothy Geiger wrote in an accompanying editorial.
